Oh a folding we will go.........Recycled Book Jack O'Lanterns

I have been working on a little project.
Something for Halloween.
Now I usually do not decorate for Halloween.
But the 5 year old is insisting.

So we will compromise.
I am not into all of the creepy, crawly and icky things.
soooooo....we need something else.

Jack O'Lanterns

I saw something {here} and I pinned it.
On Pinterest.
Where else do we see things?

It was easy.
Simple.
Being Green.

Recycled Book Jack O'Lanterns

I swear it was the easiest thing to do.
I read alot over the Summer.
So I had a pile of paperbacks collecting dust.

I started folding.
And folding.
and MORE folding.
Easy to do while catching up on Project Runway.

A little bit of felt, wire, and cardstock.
Used a cinnamon stick for the stem.
I did distress one of them.
I would love to try one with orange too.

This is the start of my Halloween Mantel.
But I am waiting until October to actually put it up.
Well...because.

Winner, Winner Chicken Dinner !!!!

After scientifically drawing a number for a winner
(asking the 5 year old to choose....lol)

New Plates - Kitchen Inspiration

I had a wonderful day yesterday celebrating my Mom's birthday with shopping and lunch.
Of course we had cupcakes with the 5 year old after school.

Happy Birthday Mom !!!

My Mom likes a good bargain just like me.
She had seen a plate at Dillard's that she really like.
It was on clearance but she wasn't able to get it.
So yesterday we went to the store near me.
And did we score !!!
Not only did she get the platter she wanted.
We got a few more.
Clearance was an additional 50% off

I fell in love with the pattern
This is my new kitchen inspiration.

Beautiful

My Kitchen is white.
Well.... off white really.
Plain
Bland
BORING !!!

Mom bought me three of each of the plates.
I love my Mom.

I am so excited about these.
I need to work on coming up with some new ideas.
Pinterest here I come !!!
I love Pinterest too.

Have you ever had that one thing inspire your decorating ideas?

A New Pillow, The 5 Year Old and My Mom's 25th Birthday

My Mom's Birthday is this week.
She is going to be 25.
We are celebrating tommorrow with shopping and lunch.
But what is a Birthday without a present.
Now my Mom doesn't like me spending alot of money on her.
It would be easier if I actually had it.
So what does one do?

CREATE, CRAFT, AND SEW

I had been wanting to try this printing on fabric thing.
I was nervous.
I didn't want to hurt my printer
But......
I sucked it up and tried it.

And it WORKED !!!
No problems.
This could be dangerous now.
But now back to her present.

I made a pillow with the 5 year olds photo on it.
I love how this came out.
I printed my photo in black and white onto muslin.
Stitched it to a napkin that I had.
(I did place another piece of muslin behind the photo becasue of the darker color)
Made up some rosettes and stitched a bunch of buttons.
I love how it came out.

Now she had a chair reupolstered recently.
And the fabric she chose was to die for.
I stole asked her for the extra pieces she had.

So now she has a pretty little pillow.
With her Grandaughter's smiling face on it.
For her new chair.
That someday will be mine.

What to try printing on Fabric?
I used the spray adhesive onto cardstock method.
Check out all of the tips and tutorials over at Polish the Stars .

My Fall Mantel

I am going to miss the New England Fall most of all.
It is starting to hit me that I am actually living in Florida now.
I could not wait to pull out my Fall stuff
My Mom thought I was nuts.

I am not ready to decorate for Halloween
I needed something for September.

Our new place has a fireplace
Yes a fireplace in Florida
I lived in New England for 40 years and NEVER had one.
I have a Fireplace but no Mantel.

I had to take action.
My dear old "Fantel" had an operation
I removed the board that connected the sides and top
Added some screws to secure it
And now I have a Mantel shelf.

I wanted to keep things simple.
Old Books, Jar of Acorns, Orange Berries in a Jug
Black Lantern, Cream Plate with Transfer, Welcome Pumpkin
and my favorite Bean Pot with Orange Berries

I also made a  Fall Leaf Garland I have seen on Pinterest

I took two 16 x 20 artist canvas and mod podge old dictionary pages to them.
Added an empty black frame tied with fabric.

I have had this mirror forever.
                                                   And my Fall Wreath

My little touch of Autumn
Even though it is still 90 degrees outside.

I think this is my favorite Mantel I have done so far.
I can't wait to add to this for Halloween.
Then Thanksgiving
Then Christmas
Then Winter...............in Florida
hmmmm... that should be interesting.

My Fall Wreath

How is it because of one thing you find
One thing that you see
One thing you cannot pass up
You need to have it
And the price is to good to pass up.

Over labor day weekend I visited my local JoAnn's
I LOVE this store
I went in for thread that was on sale and thats it
I was sticking to my list
I stuck until I walked by the bargain fabric
It was an additional 50% off
I had a coupon for 20% off your entire purchase.
It was marked $6.00 per yard
Home Decorating Fabric 54" wide
I paid $2.40 a yard
I got 3 yards
Without having a project planned
But it spoke to me
Navy Blue and Cream Houndstooth Check

(love)

This fabric was my inspiration for my Fall Wreath
I had everything else on hand
Styrofoam Wreath Form, Felt, Fabric to hang with and Pins

A tuck
A snip
A pin

Tag with Glitter Letters
(leftover from my Spring Wood Eggs )

Another Sneak peek at me Fall Mantel

Now the question is what else can I do with this fabric.
I did not even make a dent in it.

Thrifty Find Makeover....Fall Mantel Sneak Peek

Before we moved I had a box of things that I had found at Salvation Army that I did not want to part with. It was mostly things that needed to make over, those things that you see the potential in. Those things you have the idea for but yet they still sit in a box. I had found a pair of ugly brown wooden wall sconces that I thought with a little sprucing they could look great.

mine aren't actually like this but you get the idea of the finish

They were $2.99 for the pair.
I bought them of a 50% off day.
I had a vision.
With some sanding and painting.
And sanding again.

Added a glass candle cup to hold votives.
Because burning tapers on a wall just doesn't thrill me.

Hung them up on the wall.
With a sneak peek of my new Fall Mantel.
Yes I now live in Florida and I now have a Fireplace.
Go Figure.
More on that later.

(sigh)
She is so sparkly and pretty.

So keep checking back

Thank you all your support !!!!
